Our Story
Labora Brewing Company began with a vision shared by Jake, Jay, and two original partners who set out to create a brewery rooted in quality craft beer. The journey truly took shape when they acquired the historic Mathis Cotton Gin building, originally naming the project Old Gin Brewing Company.
As the brewery evolved, Nic Resio and Bobby Ridenour joined the team, bringing their own skills and passion to the project. With these two new partners the breweries identity was reimagined, renaming it Labora Brewing Company. The name “Labora” comes from the Latin word for labor, symbolizing the dedication poured into reviving the building and the hardworking spirit of the Mathis community.
Jake and Jay, had been brewing together since 2015, constantly experimenting with unique and creative recipes. With the combined efforts of family and friends, Labora Brewing Company became what it is today—a place where great beer and local history come together.
The Cotton Gin Transformation

In 2020, the team took a bold step and purchased the old Mathis Cotton Gin, a landmark built in 1920 that had once been the agricultural hub of Mathis, Texas. Many believed the building was beyond repair, but the team saw an opportunity to bring new life to a piece of local history.
With the support of the Mathis Economic Development Corporation and countless hours of hands-on work, the century-old structure was transformed into a unique brewery that pays homage to its past while creating something new for the community.
Our Brews
Labora Brewing Company prides itself on crafting beers that are as distinctive and flavorful as the people who enjoy them. From bold, experimental brews to timeless classics, there’s something for every palate. The brewery serves as a welcoming gathering place for locals and visitors alike, offering a laid-back atmosphere where good beer and great company go hand in hand.
Community and Culture
Labora is more than just a brewery—it’s a place where people come together. The Mathis community has embraced the brewery, sharing stories of the cotton gin’s past and reminiscing about its role in the town’s history.
